Dr Michael Kirley is a Professor in the School of Computing and Information Systems and a Co-Director of the Melbourne Centre for Data Science. Michael’s primary research interests are positioned at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science, where he typically explores data-driven techniques for a variety of interdisciplinary applications.
His main scientific contributions are in three areas:
- The design and analysis of evolutionary algorithms focused on solving complex optimisation problems.
- The development and application of advanced analytics and AI models to help decision makers explore plausible futures and identify solutions for disparate problems.
- Understanding cooperation and coordination in distributed multi-agent systems.
